Introduction

Delta, established at the beginning of the 1980s, provides storage service in petroleum products. Delta has proven the importance it attaches to concepts of human life, environment and safety through all the it has taken to date and is headquartered in İstanbul.

Delta Petrol
Delta, commenced its operations in 1984 by transporting crude oil and other petroleum products from Northern Iraq via Turkey’s South Eastern Anatolia region in transit and providing floating storage service in Iskenderun. The success of these operations led Delta’s efforts to the establishment of a petroleum terminal near Ceyhan, the Bay of Iskenderun. Delta established one of the biggest LPG storage facilities in the Mediterranean region and undertook the countrywide wholesale distribution of LPG and LPG tubes in the middle of the 1990s by taking advantage of its past experience in operations and construction. Delta’s success in previous projects attracted the attention of big international oil companies. As a result, the LPG production, filling and distribution business was sold to the BP/Mobil consortium.

Delta is one of the biggest petroleum storage firms in Turkey, Middle East and the Black Sea today.

Delta initiated a pilot project called “Poti Star” in March 2000 concerning floating storage business in Poti, Georgia. Delta later undertook a 35-million-dollar project in order to develop a petroleum products storage terminal at the Poti Port. The Project was financed by the EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) and BSTDB (Black Sea Trade and Development Bank). The storage facility constructed in Georgia was sold to a domestic firm in 2011.

Delta was active in oil trade business as well for many years. In order to further strengthen its already powerful position in the international oil industry, Delta possessed the means to carry out international trading activities by using its qualities such as regional expertise, managerial flexibility, and business reputation.

Additionally, Delta also became the proprietor and operator of one of the largest independent LPG semi-trailer fleets capable of carrying more than 200 units simultaneously. The fleet rendered services in a wide geography which covered countries such as Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, Georgia, Sudan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Syria, etc.

Delta entered the business of oil distribution network in 2000. One of the group companies, Delta Akaryakıt Ticaret A.Ş., took over the oil distribution network business from Delta in 2007. Delta is a company which has been active in various business lines and gained valuable experience in them to date. However, as a result of its specialization attempts and efforts to reach a streamlined organizational structure, it targeted the strategy to conduct a single line of business activity through separately operating companies under the group umbrella. For this purpose, Delta specialized in storage business in which Delta has its deepest experience. Therefore, the main business is oil storage. The progressive sophistication of the features of petroleum products and volatilities observed in global oil markets require capabilities to provide flexible logistics services in global markets. Therefore, petroleum storage industry has become a service industry independent from all other service-related industries. Having taken into consideration the global trends, Delta determined its area of expertise as international independent petroleum storage and shaped its market strategies accordingly. Therefore, the sole activity of Delta as of today is oil storage.

Delta doubled its storage capacity in line with its strategies at the end of 2008. The expansion project was financed by International Finance Corporation (IFC), a World Bank Group organization. Delta also commenced the construction of a 2.300-meter long jetty in order to be able to provide more sophisticated services to its customers operating globally.
