Delta operates the region's largest overland petroleum transportation operation, a computer dispatched and monitored "rolling pipeline" of over 10,000 road tankers operated by approximately 30,000 drivers.
As an oil services specialist, transportation is a key Delta Petroleum business line. With operations diversified across a region stretching from the Middle East to Central Asia, efficient logistics are central to our success. For this reason, we have invested not only in vehicles but in transportation management and state-of-the-art monitoring technology. Our “rolling pipeline” between Turkey and Iraq is the largest operation of its kind in the world, transporting almost 3 million tons of crude oil and petroleum products annually.
To manage this fleet, our team of 75 transportation management professionals based in Turkey and Iraq run advanced proprietary transportation software. This dynamic, internet-based system is satellite linked and permits active monitoring of all road tanker lifts and discharges. The package provides data on product both delivered and en route to its destination, as well as tracking stock levels and identifying logistical bottlenecks. It also transmits datafrom five checkpoints where all of Delta's vehicles are inspected. The same system is used to track Delta's fleet of 200 LPG semi-trailers, which transport over 150,000 tons of LPG annually. These semi-trailer tankers, the largest fleet in a region encompassing Turkey, Iraq and Iran, are all state-of-the-art.
Delta's extensive transportation assets, combined with transportation know-how gained in the very challenging conditions of Iraq and Iran, have allowed us to design custom-made crude oil and petroleum products logistics solutions for customers, including leading oil majors. Moreover, our logistics know-how and experience have been a major contributors to the continued growth of our operations in Georgia, where sea and rail coordination is the key to successfully linking the Caspian basin to the Black Sea and Turkey.
Additionally, Delta and Delta Logistics have brought their extensive experience of logistics know-how to Sudan, backed by state-of-the-art technology and an international organisation. Delta Logistics, the first phase of the Group’s investments in Sudan, will initially operate a fleet of 300 new offroad trucks and 600 new semitrailers specifically designed to operate in the Sudan. Working with one of world leaders in heavy-duty truck durability, Delta Logistics has designed 6 x 4 trucks based on 25 years of operating in the Middle East that provide outstanding performance in demanding conditions where infrastructure is minimal or non-existent. The semitrailers, also engineered for Sudanese conditions, are being produced in Turkey to the highest international standards. All trucks will feature high-tech vehicle monitoring and tracking running on a satellite system provided by one of the top names in fleet management and remote monitoring technology.
